Apparently Amazon, after years of surveillance devices masquerading as slick home gadgets (we’re looking at you, Alexa), has decided that’s not quite enough. Now, they want Proximal Policy Optimization (sounds quasi-cool and science-y, doesn’t it?) to simulate the collective browsing behavior of all humans and predict what the next person might do. Welcome to the brave, somewhat creepy, new world of AI-driven web browsing.

What’s next, you ask? Nōva will even predict instances where people abandon their carts. Could it be prices that result in a mini heart attack or shipping costs that even Elon Musk wouldn’t approve? Who are we kidding here? The shopping gods at Amazon will not only nudge us gently, but pretty much push us into the black hole of “Deal of the Day.”

Moving on, let’s not forget the supposed main man, Lōki. This guy is an AI database query optimizer. Sounds fancy, right? But what does it really mean? You might as well call it ‘the JAW (just ask Wikipedia) version of AWS’. Because that’s what it does – it filters out the junk and presents you with ‘relevant’ information. So, if you were thinking you might need a sanctuary from potentially intrusive tech giants, unfortunately, Lõki got there first.

One of our favorite phrases from this article? “The uncanny valley of web browsing.” Indeed, Wired. It’s downright eerie when an algorithm is observing our every digital move. But, hey, who needs privacy when big data and AI get to call the shots?

So as you mind your step in this unfamiliar terrain of AI technology and gaze into the abyss of this brave (scary!) new world, one can’t help but wonder – Is our digital freedom being replaced by algorithmic determinism? Or is this the new frontier for personalized navigation in the timeless expanse of the worldwide web? It’s a food for thought, or perhaps, fodder for the AIs. Brace yourselves dear internet users, the AI voyeurs are here.

Read the original article here: https://www.wired.com/story/amazon-ai-agents-nova-web-browsing/

“Elon Musk condemns shipping costs, AI voyeurs are watching and Amazon is masquerading surveillance devices as gadgets.
