Well, well, isn’t that a classic move we know too well? Time and again, it has hardly failed us, hasn’t it? Lean back, hands off, let the wind blow it where it will. After all, what could possibly go wrong with autonomous decision-making technology that has the potential to permeate every facet of human existence?<\/p>\n
According to the narrative spun during his speech, the grand idea rests on the bedrock of laissez-faire capitalist principles. The government will, assumably, be the benign spectator in the race, cheerleading from the sidelines, watching AI evolve in the wild capitalist jungle. \u201cWe didn\u2019t halt the Industrial Revolution, we won\u2019t stop this one either.\u201d There’s that undying spirit!<\/p>\n
While this hands-off approach might sound enticing, it sparks a few pressing questions. Queries like what’s to stop this technology from snowballing into something unmanageable? Wouldn’t it be prudent to have some sort of legislations in place to check AI’s progression? Is ‘survival of the fittest’ truly the best approach for something as potentially catastrophic and transformative as AI?<\/p>\n
But there’s more in this soup than meets the eye. The apparent “action plan” also throws around the idea of re-skilling and up-skilling American workers who are likely to be affected by this AI wave. How comforting! Let’s all just ride the wave and if we wipe out, casually swim back to shore, take some AI coding lessons and resurface as new-age digital demigods, right?<\/p>\n
Yes, the strategy is shrouded in ambiguity and vagueness. Yes, it sounds more like a case of wishful thinking than a solid, well-thought-out plan. But one thing is for sure – once again, sweeping statements are being declared with aplomb and at this juncture, all we can do is wait. Wait and watch technology unfold, being lightly steered by the optimistic winds of rhetorics, hoping it doesn’t end up being a case of the blind leading the blind.
