Swimming against the tide of the classic brick-and-mortal data centers, Microsoft recently unveiled Project Natick. So, what’s hot about it\u2014or rather, what’s cool? Picture this: a completely submerged data center lodged cozily at the bottom of the Scottish sea.<\/p>\n
No doubt this jolts the mind with an array of absurd, yet intriguing queries: What happens if there is a leak? Will we have clams betting on server races? Is Microsoft kicking off a new trend – “Underwater Tech?” Well, it seems the tech giant is willing to deep dive into these questions in the name of efficiency and cost curbing, or perhaps, just to show off their buoyant innovative prowess.<\/p>\n
To the uninitiated, data centers require the climatic dexterity of a polar bear. They need to keep cool, super cool.
