They’re simulacra—AI projections—of Musk, built by developers experimenting with OpenAI’s newest, most powerful language model, GPT-3” (Source: Wired.com).

At its heart, the question is: Is it truly possible for AI to replicate, and thereby multiply, the minds of tech titocrats like Elon Musk? As fascinating as it sounds, the scenario is not as simple as it appears to be.

These high tech doppelgangers, created using OpenAI’s most robust language model to date, GPT-3, are making rounds on social media. Seemingly springing from the minds of their biologically grounded counterparts, they offer business advice to eagerly awaiting audiences. Yet, even as they offer the remarkable convenience of accessing the minds of geniuses at a click, stakeholders question their legitimacy and ethics.

These AI powered entities stray frighteningly-close to replicating the minds of their muses. Yet, they present an interesting ethical question. Do these AI projections somehow violate rights to personality, given that they replicate a living person? It’s certainly entertaining to ponder the ramifications of a world where anyone can inject a little bit artificial Elon Musk into their morning routine.

Here is the scoop: AI technology is advancing, for better or worse. It’s breaking barriers, creating simulacra that can engage in online communities. However, the replicas of these tech titans are still light years away from real humans in terms of complex thinking, spontaneous creativity, and emotional intelligence.

In the world of AI, context and nuance are still problematic. This presents a moral black hole: an AI, no matter how advanced, should not be entrusted with the responsibility of posing as a person, especially a person of influence. The tech-savvy populace would likely agree that a fake Steve Jobs or Elon Musk digitally pontificating tech wisdom via AI might ultimately do more harm than good.

This intriguing technology has undoubtedly begun to blur the lines between human thought and AI. However, it seems best to remember that simulacra, while skilfully imitating their models, are still simply imitations. So next time an AI resembling Elon Musk litter the social media feed with some revolutionary business idea, take it with a grain of salt.

Read the original article here: https://www.wired.com/story/tech-ceos-using-ai-to-be-everywhere-at-once/

“Meet the AI Elon Musks, dishing techie wisdom on social media!
