He did not, however, credit the photographer, or Kate Middleton, whose face, quite literally, was in the picture.” So, here we are revisiting an incident that confirms that in the digital age – and especially in the world of fashion and celebrity – things are not always as they seem.

It wasn’t just any old image that Palomo Spain posted onto his high-profile Instagram account, oh no, it was a shot strategically edited to superimpose Duchess Kate Middleton’s face onto the model. A face-swap of sorts, but without the mutual agreement or amusement that usually comes with most Snapchat filters.

Would you believe it, there was an omission of suitable accreditation. No hat-tip to the photographer. No nod to Middleton her royal self, whose countenance gloriously filled the frame. Imagine the audacity! It’s enough to make anyone forget how many filters they habitually scroll through for the perfect selfie.

Setting aside the striking audacity of it all, what really takes the biscake in this “hit-and-run posting” scenario are two embarrassingly silly errors. Firstly, on chucking the Duchess’ face into the mix, the designer seems to have lost an important accessory – Middleton’s iconic sapphire engagement ring. Oh dear, didn’t we recognize that something significant was missing?

Secondly, unlike professional manipulations where an expert would magically whisk away any trace of the original image, our impromptu graphic designer left behind a large chunk of the initial model’s face. Cut, paste, edit – it’s not like it’s rocket science but clearly, it’s enough to befuddle some.

Now, these points aren’t just about pointing out the faults in celebrity-land. Rather, it’s a sobering reminder of the power and the pitfalls of image editing. If you’re going to do some Photoshop wizardry, it’s best to make sure it looks as seamless as possible or you risk the wrath of eagle-eyed enthusiasts.

In the era of digital transformation, image editing skills have become almost as essential as the ability to take a decent photograph. But as the incident involving Palomo and the Duchess certainly illustrates, some people clearly still have a lot to learn.

So, the moral of the story for all aspiring Photoshop artists and Instagram influencers out there: If you’re planning a high-profile face swap, at least have the decency to do it properly. And if you can’t – don’t. Worst case scenario: you might get your mistake immortalized in a blog post. Best case scenario: free Photoshop lessons from your online followers.

Read the original article here: https://www.wired.com/story/kate-middleton-photoshop-mistakes/

“In a deceitful face-swap faux pas, fashionista Alejandro Gomez abandoned Photoshop ethics, purloined Duchess of Cambridge’s admirable mug, while foolishly forgetting her iconic ring and swift attribution.”

[1

post-831","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-uncategorized","bwp-masonry-item","bwp-col-3
["GET
