Oh, Elon’s at it again. Sticking his hand into another high-pie-in-the-sky technology endeavor. Like a kid in the world’s most expensive and potentially world-changing sweet shop. This time it’s something they’re calling ‘Colossus.’ With a name that grandiose, it better be good.
It seems the contents inside this metaphorical tin of tech are set to be almost as impressive as the shiny exterior. Musk promises “advanced XAI capabilities”, which, in layman’s terms, equates to explainable artificial intelligence. Trust Musk to not only want to advance the AI field but be able to casually understand it over afternoon tea.
This new supercomputer is being flexed as a step up from SpaceX’s previous model. It’s apparently so efficient that it can solve a Rubik’s Cube while simultaneously figuring out the cure for the common cold and, maybe, planning its next holiday in Mars orbit.
We’re told that the impact of this new super gadget will be astronomical. It will supposedly further advance AI performance and efficiency, improve predictions in diverse sectors from medical diagnosis to finance, and re-imagine discovery in sciences, among other things. No pressure, ‘Colossus.’
The cutting-edge XAI system, built into ‘Colossus’, will allow humans to better interpret and understand its decision-making process, because there’s nothing like a human understanding an ultra-sophisticated machine’s decisions to alleviate any inkling of an AI uprising.
Remember people, this is all a matter of the digital chips falling where they may. After all, a supercomputer is only as super as the people using it. We are left with one question though: when ‘Colossus’ starts giving entrepreneurial advice, do we start buying electric cars or tickets to Mars?
