“Amazon Enlists Anthropic for a Hilariously Huge AI Supercomputer Project”
“Amazon Is Building a Mega AI Supercomputer With Anthropic”
“Amazon is finally offering up answers to the question of what happens when your company has so much money you can invent anything: Turns out, you invent a new supercomputer.”
So, Amazon reinvents the wheel, a magnified, super-muscular wheel that is. The company that’s sitting on an Everest-sized mound of cash decided it’s high-time to mingle with the elites of supercomputing, and why not, when you’ve got pockets as deep as Jeff’s!
Amazon unveiled its outrageously powerful supercomputer during a virtual conference. Codenamed ‘Antha’, this behemoth is capable of processing machine-learning tasks at a speed that made Bezos’ spaceship “Blue Origin” look like a snail on a speed-breaker.
Licking your lips at the myriad of possibilities a supercomputer could unleash? Well, hold onto your hats because Amazon’s not really letting Antha loosen its reigns yet. Don’t expect to test it out on your home desktop either. As of right now, Amazon’s only providing Antha to its select group of machine-learning researchers at Anthropic.
As described in the original article, “It seems Anthropic, in particular, is developing a new field of artificial intelligence research that incorporates the study of human cognition into machine learning programs.” So, it seems our Bezos-backed beast isn’t just crunching numbers in a corner. It’s eying a significant leap towards more immersive, intuitive AI.
According to reports, Antha is flexing its muscles on Top500, a reputed listing that ranks the world’s most powerful non-distributed computer systems – a Super Bowl of supercomputers, if you will. Amazon’s new toy is roughhousing in the top ranks and has industry insiders nodding in approval.
Who wouldn’t want a piece of that machine-learning pie, especially when it’s being served on a silver platter by Amazon? Well, the pie isn’t cut yet. The supercomputer is still confined behind Amazon’s doors.
As for the future? “Details remain scant, but the notion of AWS leveraging future versions of Antha for its cloud customers isn’t far-fetched.” So, there you have it. Antha is flexing, soaring, and setting tongues wagging, but for now, it’s predominantly a plaything in Amazon’s sandbox. While we wait eagerly as Amazon may choose to share its toy with the rest of us, let’s just sit back and marvel at the manifestation of trillion-dollar dreams.
