Google’s AI Chief Hilariously Suggests Gemini’s New Powers Pave the Path to AGI

“Google’s AI Boss Says Gemini’s New Abilities Point the Way to AGI”

“Two years ago, Sundar Pichai, likened AI to the discovery of fire, or electricity. On Tuesday, the gravity of AI’s societal impact was underscored when Google’s parent company, Alphabet, elevated Pichai to the role of CEO, overseeing all of Google’s sprawling interests.”

So, our dear Sundar Pichai here thinks AI is equivalent to the discovery of fire or electricity. And it turns out, the higher ups at Alphabet buy into this analogy too, given they’ve offered him the throne of the digital kingdom, Google.

The story on everyone’s lips (or screens) is all the buzz with Google’s AI, namely “Gemini”. Now, Gemini is sleek. Gemini is snazzy. And according to the tech-heads and number crunchers, it’s a pretty big deal. A real game-changer. In plain English, it’s been dubbed the pathfinder to AGI (Artificial General Intelligence).

So, what’s this AGI, you ask? Imagine creating an AI that could outsmart all humans in most economically valuable work. Yes, this AI wouldn’t just be a master of one trade, it could do your taxes, compose a symphony, add a little charm to your social media profiles, and probably even make better coffee than you. That, dear readers, is AGI.

Now, Google’s DeepMind subsidiary is the superhero behind ‘Gemini’ and AGI. According to DeepMind CEO, Demis Hassabis, the newest version, AlphaGo Zero, is completely self-taught. Impressive, isn’t it? A machine that learns all by itself, sparing you the pain of understanding and teaching those complex algorithms (because who has time for that?).

AlphaGo Zero’s autodidacticism ( fancy jargon for self-learning) allows it to beat its previous versions at the ancient Chinese game of Go. So, it’s a new AI overlord that humiliates its predecessors for kicks. Famous chess player, Garry Kasparov, seems pretty excited at the idea. And why wouldn’t he be, considering the machine could probably give him a run for his money on the chessboard too.

However, in typical Google fashion, they’re not stopping at mastering board games. They’re set on making AI more ‘general’, more human-like. Hence, Project Gemini, hoping to step away from task-specific AI and dive into the uncharted territory of AGI. The idea? To make AI ‘omniscient’, a digital Einstein if you will, adept at every task.

Pichai’s grand vision for Google, of pioneering the path to AGI, seems like the perfect plot for a futuristic science fiction thriller. The jury’s still out on whether this will be an epic blockbuster or a box office disaster. But as they say, only time (or Google) will tell.
