In Stealth Mode, Bezos’ Latest AI Play Snaps Up a Plucky Startup in Agentic Computing

“Jeff Bezos’ New AI Venture Quietly Acquired an Agentic Computing Startup”
“As if the world’s richest human, Jeff Bezos, needs another company, he announced on Wednesday, to the surprise of pretty much everyone, that he has acquired early stage startup Agentic, which uses AI to turn ordinary smartphones into supercomputers,” states the article on Wired.
Really, is there anything in this world that Bezos doesn’t want his hands on? This time around, it’s not journalism or book-selling that has caught our dear billionaire’s fancy but the fanciful world of artificial intelligence.
Agentic, the brand new shiny toy in his vast collection, is no run-of-the-mill startup. They have figured out how to transform a humble smartphone into a supercomputer. No more hauling around the hefty supercomputers, if Bezos and his new buddies are to be believed. Your very own iPhone or Android handset could soon prove to be a force to reckon with.
Bezos gave a sneak peek of this venture through an Instagram Live session (so millennial, right?), and his boyish enthusiasm was quite evident. He likened this pioneering technology to the invention of electricity. A tad hyperbolic, perhaps, but who are we to question the man who practically reinvented retail?
Agentic has been pushing the boundaries of artificial intelligence by developing mobile neural networks. These networks mirror the structure of the human brain. Shiver a bit, because it seems like we are edging closer towards a Sci-fi movie scenario.
Yet, its glorious AI ambitions aside, this company is well aware of the importance of security. They promise that their technology won’t involve shipping your personal data off to someone else’s cloud. Is this Bezos’ way of handling those tiny privacy concerns that have been nagging at him?
No one knows for sure. But, with Bezos’ proclamation that Agentic joining the family is akin to “another nail in the coffin of general-purpose computing,” it’s safe to say the Earth’s richest human has big plans. How successful this venture will turn out to be, only time (or our smartphone-turned-supercomputers) will tell. Until then, we just have to wait and see what other industries Bezos decides to dip his toes into. Space tourism, anyone?
