Here, it refers to tricking unsuspecting recipients into believing they are receiving a call from trusted sources, thereby obtaining sensitive information under false pretenses. Quite the techie ‘trick or treat’ feat, isn’t it?
Interestingly, the FCC ruling also took a conclusive stand against text messages generated by artificial intelligence. Clearing up any confusion, it emphasized that these, too, troupe under the ‘illegal’ category. So, the next time you feel a little lonely and want to strike up a conversation with an AI texter, think again.
