Put lightly, let’s just say submersing ourselves into the artificial realm doesn’t always result in a smooth-sailing conversation and at times, it feels like wrangling a glitchy computer stuck on repeat.
AI has come such a long way from its marriage proposal spamming days of error-infested dialogues, hasn’t it? A moment of silence to commemorate those brave, yet futile attempts. But alas, the journey to perfection is riddled with some ‘Google translation-gone-wrong’ moments.
With the advent of VR, it’s becoming glaringly clear that unleashing AI into the virtual realm isn’t making matters any better. Casual whispers or overheard conversations, you’d think, would just go about their merry way, lost in the din of digital chit-chat. Well, good luck with that. It’s more akin to someone trying to keep a ‘little’ secret in the town’s gossip mill.
The result – AI ends up creating an entirely new dialogue that rivals the plotline of a melodramatic telenovela. Quite the scriptwriter, isn’t it? It’s as if some mega AI overlord decided that a soupçon of unnecessary drama is the only thing missing from the monotony of our everyday virtual chats.
And about those unfathomable lies, oh boy, they deserve a separate rant of their own. Chatbots seem to have developed a knack for storytelling and not in a very good way. Spewing out fiction as facts, they’d give the most seasoned con-artists a run for their money. It’s one thing to mix up a fact or two while conversing, but it’s an entirely different ball game to start leaking out tall tales woven in an intricate web of fibs.
To sum it up, AI has mastered the art of whispering sweet nothings into our ears, making any reasonable conversation seem like an episode straight out of the Twilight Zone. So, until our AI pals figure out the subtleties of conversation, be prepared for some VR roller-coaster rides infused with a generous dose of melodrama and fibs big enough to make Pinocchio blush.
